What are the types of Lung Diseases ?
There are mainly three types of lung diseases:
- Airway diseases: Airways are the tubes that convey oxygen and other gases into and out of the lungs; hence diseases of the airways impact these tubes. Typically, they constrict or obstruct the airways. Asthma Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary (COPD), and bronchiectasis are examples of airway diseases.
- Lung circulation diseases: The blood arteries in the lungs are impacted by these diseases. They develop as a result of blood vessel clotting, scarring, or inflammation. They interfere with the lungs' capacity to absorb oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Heart health may also be impacted by these diseases. Pulmonary hypertension is a condition that affects the blood flow to the lungs. When they exert themselves, people with these diseases frequently feel quite out of breath.
- Lung tissue diseases: These conditions have an impact on the lung tissue's structure. Scarring or tissue inflammation prevents the lungs from expanding completely (restrictive lung disease). The lungs struggle to absorb oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide as a result. They are unable to breathe deeply as a result. Lung tissue diseases include sarcoidosis and pulmonary fibrosis.
